this is primarily for ripper
but i remember that some of you have played around with them

i was re-installing my linux laptop today (broke the sound trying to get sound working in vmware - uninstalled alsa to install oss, broke it all) and i was reinstalling ubuntu 8.04.1 and figured id try 8.10 beta.

so the question for this post

any suggestions for which distro to use on a somewhat older laptop
(dell inspirion 1150)
pentium 4 - 2.8ghz mobile
1.25gb ram
no real video acceleration (crappy intel pos onboard)

dont have that many needs, havent really gotten settled with a windowsmanager either (though i get gnome, when i tried kde 4.x beta it was so confusing)
i pretty much only use firefox and playing around w/ virtual machines, old-school games in wine (e.g. command and conquer 1)

hardware requirements include suspend/hibernate, wifi

thanks

Distros don't really matter as far as hardware goes. It all comes down to what features you like, and if you're not really sure there's no substitute for trial and error. All it takes is your time.

yea, i know
just wondering if anyone had used a distro on a laptop and preferred it to others

settled on ubuntu 8.10 beta (intrepid) for the honeymoon
