Default DVD ripper for scratched dvds?

Hi kids,

Anyone know of a good dvd ripper for scratched discs? DVD Shrink, while old and still awesome, totally craps out at the first sign of a CRC error. I don't mind a hic-up in my backup if I can find software that will at least try to get through a scratch.

is it possible to get the dvd re-polished to help get some of the scratches out ?
this might work if the scratches are on the underside.

probably not much difference inside vs outside
its just the quality or generation of the optics
