Thanks, Freon, appreciate the input.
So far, the D-link looks to be the least of the problem children.
Buffalo claims they'll be shipping their WZR-HP-G300NH with dd-wrt firmware pre-installed starting in July, but that one has received horrid reviews for one that's "out of the box" and I may not be able to wait until July.
Linksys doesn't seem to have any Gigabit models yet?
But... I may just wait a few weeks to see what happens.

linksys has gigabit, but from what i can remember, their retail price is not cheap (e.g. > $75)
E2000 ($99)
E3000 ($149)
WRT310N v1, v2 ($89)
WRT320N - both gigabit WAN & LAN ($59)
WRT350N ($99)
WRT600N - v1, v1.1 ($179)
WRT610N - v1, v2 ($179)

Oh, so I see. They moved the notation of Gigabit to the "Special Features" column instead of keeping it in the "Port Count" column like they did for other models. I was matching that column against other models.
Looks like I have some more reading to do....

ive been tempted to get the single channel (dont know if it has gigabit) netgear routers that run about $30 refurbished...
but since you need gigabit, that increases the price a little bit.
a brief glance gigabit routers start @ $70 and range up to $120 (except old models that can go for $150+ due to their age & rarity)

Decisions, decisions, lol.
Price isn't really an object, since they gave me a $150 budget, but I see no need to spend that much if I don't really need to.
The D-link 825 can be had for ~ $120 new on Amazon (and I really prefer new), but there's those big damn question marks in the columns for the H.W revision B2 entry over at dd-wrt.
That's what's holding me back on it. If it weren't for those, I'd snap it right up.

any of the "resellers" on amazon have new ones?
try to contact them and see if they know if its a B2 vs other
same goes for most online sellers
especially if they have a decent 'customer service' or 'pre-sales' department

My boss is ordering it, so that isn't feasible really.
He asked me tonight on AIM, and didn't really pressure me, but he *was* wondering if I had made up my mind yet. So... I told him to go ahead and get me the DIR-825.
I'll see how it works out.
If it's not the right one, I can wait. As is, it'll be an improvement over the Linksys it's replacing. And if it's the B2, no doubt dd-wrt will release a build for it at some point in the near future.
This is new, claims to be coming direct from Amazon, and was $124.73 so I won't complain. Now we wait. Woot!
Thanks for all your help, folks. Appreciate it!

depending on what the OEM firmware gives you, you might be able to "dump" the rom code and send it to the dd-wrt team, then they can figure the differences and release support for the B2 version... but i wont get your hopes up, typically that requires a jtag (think of it as a serial connection... from leads on the mobo (that arent soldier'ed yet)

I'll just keep my fingers crossed that I get the B1 Hardware version. Amazon sometimes has the older (though technically current) versions, versus the latest and greatest from other resellers. So... we'll see.
Yeah, I know of jtag connectors. Doubtful there would be one there, but you never know!

Well, the Router is here, and yes! it's Hardware version B1. Had to upgrade the firmware from 2.02NA to 2.03NA immediately to solve a VOIP issue, but MAN does it work slick now.
And so far at least, it not only works well, but my download speeds are hitting 30 Mbps peak. Best the Linksys would give me is about 20.
Upload speed isn't so hot, about half what it should be, but I can play with that later.
We'll see about adding the dd-wrt firmware in the future, but for now at least I am one happy camper.
Now to impatiently wait for the laptop, lol.
