Default Laptop for sis maybe Dell

Hello all my sister is after a cheapish laptop up to say round about £400 so have been looking at the dell range with the Inspiron 15 standing out with the Intel® Celeron Dual Core T3000 (1.80 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 1 MB L2 Cache)

Laptop will be used for internet , word and manly to store and edit photos, battery life is a must plus weight so what do people think

I've had lots of Laptops over the years (including Dells). My current one is an Acer and it's great.

To me these are almost commodities. Purchase by specification and price. Just don't overbuild it. Get the stuff you will really use and stay away from extended warranties by the retailers. They are just cash cows.

im a dell fan
dont get a celery stick

the "Z" models are "lighter", but it appears that it starts @499 (a little over your price range)

what about a netbook?
dell mini 10v, with bigger battery and non-ssd drive is only £308.99

other brands have better processor and some options
not to mention ION! (nvidia gpu northbus chip)

but there are no dual core atom's on netbooks till next gen (pine trail)

At long last my sis has ordered her laptop and it's a .................................................. Acer

was going to get a dell but was looking for something else when i saw a good deal on tesco's for an Acer which has the same processor, memory but a 500GB harddrive for £397 where the dell only had a 320GB and would have cost £430

This really depends on what she is running on it. A Celeron is fine for web surfing, word processing and the like.

I agree for heavy duty Video Editing, Gaming, or Photoshop they'd be a Dog

got the boys an xps lappy of dell, still having problems with it, overheating, blah blah blah...

sorted now, though still tends to overheat, even though they use it on my granite worktop chopping board.

saying that dell support has been fantastic, ive purchased desktop computers of them from 2004, two for me, one for my dad and one for my bro.

excellence in that respect,

although my last two (present) laptop is a toshiba, and never had a thing go wrong yet.

acers, are a brilliant wee lappy , my friend whos a technician always buys them for his kids.

Been playing with the Acer Aspire 5732Z as sis said she wanted it setup for when she gets her hand on the laptop so spent a few hours removing the crap software which was installed from the likes of Norton and McAfee and making a set of backup disc's

It's a nice looking laptop which feels it can take a knock or two without falling apart which is always a good thing

As for using it's nice and nippy when opening and using apps plus playing files off my network from videos and music plus only found out from using that it has a N spec wifi which is handy

Battery life is about just over 3 hours when only using the internet which isn't to bad

On a bit of a downside it's not that loud which is the only real thing that lets the side down which is a shame as other than that it's a great laptop for the price

Spec
Intel Pentium® Dual Core T4300
4GB memeory
500GB Harddrive
15.6" Screen
Windows 7 Home Premium
£397 from Tesco plus £5 delivery Link
