openSUSE 11.3 is here!

Welcome to openSUSE 11.3. It was released release on July 15, 2010. The new version of openSUSE improves your computing experience with more than 50 new features, including new netbook desktops, smartphone support and secure backup and file sharing in the cloud.

The openSUSE Project is pleased to announce the release of the latest incarnation of openSUSE, with support for 32-bit and 64-bit systems. openSUSE 11.3 is packed with new features and updates including SpiderOak to sync your files across the Internet for free, Rosegarden for free editing of your audio files, improved indexing with Tracker, and updates to Mozilla Firefox, and Thunderbird.
Among these many new features, openSUSE also provides support for netbooks and the Btrfs file system support. Users can expect to see improved hardware support with the 2.6.34 Linux kernel and updated graphics drivers. And support for the next generation of interactive computing for touchscreens like the HP TouchSmart.
openSUSE continues its tradition of delivering the popular KDE, GNOME and Xfce desktop environments, and now also provides the lightweight LXDE desktop environment. With GNOME, you can use the latest 2.30.1 version or take your installation for a drive with a preview of the upcoming GNOME 3.0. Or choose KDE SC 4.4.4 for the latest updates. They all feature the polish and integration that the openSUSE distro has been known for.

I was hoping to be installing it tonight.
The first bit torrent iso file I downloaded was weird. it looked like a true ISO but it would not burn with K3B, it said it was not a iso file ???? I checked the hash key, it did not match.
Now, I am re-downloading. will install it when possible.
for a month now, I have been using Suse 11.2. since my windows pc bit the dust , due to a electrical storm.

So far, using Suse 11.2 has been rock solid. this box had suse installed on it since 2007. about a month ago, I updated it to 11.2.
I thought after doing that it would of been hosed. to my surprise, its still running good.

only thing I did try to test was the Suse 11.3 live cd. for some unknown reason it would not boot and load onto my lap top, had to boot it in the safe mode.
that was not much of a test, looked about the same to me. I just like it. I know what I can do with it and am able to use it to my benefit.

a lot of linux distro's are available in torrent form to reduce the load on servers and help "foster the open source community"

and since all iso's have MD5sum hashes, then (if checked by downloader) there is no chance of spyware/rootkits/etc on user's machines from an unknown 3rd party
unless the outlandish chance that the server (original website) is hacked that shows incorrect md5sum's for hacked iso files...
but that too would be policed by not only the host (project leader/coordinator), the community, as well as the seeded torrents that would not match the hacked md5sums...

not saying that its impossible, but typically quicker to fix than traditional distribution networks

UP_DATE:
finally downloaded the Suse11.3 , and got it burned to a DVD.

after installing it over my previous install, every thing worked great.
I just had to reinstall most of my programs so they was up to date and current for the new linux .
This is the first time I have had a issue with installing the Nvidia drivers.
after installing the graphic card drivers , it would not boot up to desk top anymore. just keeps getting the prompt screen for use name and pass. guess that works if you know how to work every thing by typing. I dont.

so, I did a install fix . and its working again.
will do a full back up recovery image with acronis true image before attempting to reinstall the Nvidia drivers.

other than that, this is working great.

I like the new Suse 11.3 version.
it seems to run smooth and better then the older version.

only issue I have about it now is the nvidia drivers.
I can not get it to work with my install.
and I can not get it figured out . so for now, I am just running the default Nvidia drivers. Untill a update comes out or a new driver with better support.
or it just might be me. ??? this is the first time I have had any issues.
every thing else works perfectly. can not complain.
